WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Fluree, which has developed a Web3 data platform, and Sinisana Technologies today announced a partnership that will enable the Malaysia-based supply chain company to provide customers with sourcing, provenance and unassailable end-to-end safety of halal food products.
By using Fluree technology in its blockchain product, Intersect, Sinisana can now assure its supply chain and logistics customers of transparency and integrity throughout the lifecycle of halal food products, from their origins respectively on the shelves of grocery stores. Sinisana’s Intersect solution will specifically monitor a supply chain of halal beef sourced from Australian cattle – its first operational use case. Fluree technology will help track the initial transit of these cattle from a premium beef supplier in Sarawak, Malaysia to grocery stores. Sinisana’s halal beef tracking app is one of the first to be powered by blockchain technology in Southeast Asia.
“Sinisana is a respected leader in supply chain solutions in Southeast Asia,” said Brian Platz, co-founder and CEO of Fluree. “The Sinisana team has decades of experience in supply chain and logistics operations in food and consumer goods, as well as deep technical expertise in resource planning software. business, blockchain and data management technology. Fluree seeks that perfect blend of industry domain expertise and technical innovation from its strategic partners. These are characteristics that Sinisana embodies.
Halal is a set of standards that adhere to dietary restrictions prescribed by Islamic law, including humane treatment of animals while living on a farm and not cooking with alcohol.
“We’ve seen cost savings of over 50% since using Fluree’s blockchain technology in January,” said Jonah Lau, co-founder and chief technology officer of Sinisana. “Development time has also been significantly reduced. We can have a blockchain-based ledger up and running in less than an hour using Fluree. Fluree’s ease of deployment and maintenance was a key factor in our decision to switch to using Fluree. The meat and halal meat supply chain, in particular, is a complicated and highly regulated industry. Leveraging Fluree’s graph-based blockchain technology, our solution provides a multi-organization collaborative platform to bring trust and transparency to the halal beef market.
Sinisana’s Intersect solution provides rich, real-time, integrated data to enable businesses to make better decisions. Fluree’s blockchain technology connects previously siled data, enabling interoperability between different datasets and supply chain networks. Business customers using Intersect can efficiently recall items, prevent counterfeiting, prove ethical sourcing and forecast demand.
The halal use case is simply where Intersect, powered by Fluree, can be applied. Others include pesticide and herbicide tracing, ingredient tracing, third-party lab integration, kosher certification, organic certification, and multi-ingredient traceability. The complexities of the meat industry offer a poignant use case for blockchain technology to aid verification and credibility.
For example, Sinisana has been using Fluree technology since March for the traceability of soft-shell crabs and shrimp. Sinisana plans to launch a new project in August using Fluree technology that will provide transparency on where ingredients and products are sourced from marginalized indigenous communities who live in Malaysia’s rainforests. Sinisana would store payment information to these communities in an immutable form using Fluree technology – a practice that will preserve biodiversity by eliminating the need to destroy rainforest habitats. The project will be carried out in collaboration with the Sarawak Biodiversity Center as part of its commitment and compliance with the Access and Benefit Sharing Program of the United Nations Development Programme.
“Sinisana is poised to bring transformative value to supply chain networks with the Intersect solution and we are thrilled to be part of their remarkable journey,” said Buck Flannigan, Vice President of Global Alliances at Fluree. . “When we talk about blockchain for supply chain networks, we often overlook the value the technology can potentially bring to the consumer. Sinisana proves that these emerging technologies can not only ensure trust and transparency between business-to-business partners within a network, but also ensure trust and accountability for consumers who care about the sourcing and handling of goods.
