Domain rating scam now mentions Sedo – domain name wire

If you receive any of these emails, just delete it.

Beware, the ever-evolving domain name rating scam is now trying to leverage Sedo’s reputation.

The latest iterations of the scam begin with an email sent through (or apparently sent through) GoDaddy’s new Whois contact system. After the domain name owner responds, the bogus domain buying broker requires the person to purchase a review before sending funds for the domain name. It’s a variation of many classic scams where people promise to send someone money, but need them to send them a small verification payment first.

A DNW reader received one of these emails claiming that this is a Sedo Certified offer. It’s a little strange that crooks name Sedo since Sedo offers its own domain reviews. And a wise observer will note that a) Sedo and GoDaddy are not partners and b) Sedo is not a retail domain name registrar.

But these emails are not directed to savvy observers who know who all the domain name companies are.

Here’s the latest follow-up email:

Hi!

Our offer has finally been verified by SEDO so that we can write to each other directly now. Since this is a SEDO certified offer, you will be protected during the transaction.

My name is Elizabeth Kristiansen. I work as a broker of international merchants in a merchant supplier company – Authorize Inc. (Norwegian subsidiary). We help our VIP clients to establish an online business (secure domain, develop a website and establish our payment system). I will help you finalize the sale of your domain.

I represent a buyer – a company from Bergen. They want to use it to drive more traffic to their new web project. Our company’s commission is only six percent. It gets paid when you get the money.

They will pay you through the Escrow / Swiss Escrow service. You can get paid by wire transfer, Paypal, check, or any other method you prefer.

The buyer offers $ 60,000.

Do you have a legal compliance certificate for Norway? It is required by its SEDO registrar (GoDaddy partner) to protect the buyer.

The final sale price will depend on the certificate ($ 60,000 minimum – if it is higher, they will pay more).

If you don’t have the certificate, that’s okay. You can order it online.

The certification must be from a source authorized by SEDO and contain a copy in Norwegian.

Certification includes the following:

1. Independent valuation of the market price. This will show that your domain name is not too expensive. On the other hand, if the valuation is higher, it will increase the price accordingly. In the domain name industry, there are many valuation tools that people use to estimate the value of a domain name. My client does not want to take risks and does not accept services that use scripts. If you are unsure of a service, please do not hesitate to ask me.

2. Verification of compliance with the TM and the law. This proves that your domain doesn’t have any branding issues. He would like this verification to be included in the appraisal report. This is not a problem as some companies include the TM verification for free.

3. Copy in Norwegian.

The process is very simple:

1. Go to the certification agency’s website and order a certificate. Just submit your domains and let them know you have a buyer with an offer of $ XX XXX. This will help you get a better assessment.

If your domain is worth at least $ 10,000, they’ll send you payment instructions. If that is not possible, they will not send you the instructions. This way you won’t lose anything. It is very convenient and gives you full protection. Other services charge you up front even if your domain isn’t worth paying the evaluation fee, so I don’t recommend them.

2. Send me the certificate and we’ll start the sales process. As soon as the buyer receives your certificate, they buy your domain.

If you are new to the certification process, I can help you with step by step instructions.

Thank you for replying so quickly. No risk for you to proceed as this is a domain offer certified by SEDO with full proof of funds. If you send the certificate, the buyer will have to pay you the same day.
